A primary advantage of botanicals is their complex composition consisting of collection of related compounds having multiple activities that interact for a greater total activity. The present work was based on the development of new antimicrobial and anthelmintic agents from natural sources. The antibacterial activity tested by cup plate method and anthelmintic activity tested on Indian earth worms, Pheretima posthuma. The maximum antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of Terminalia arjuna leaves was exhibited against Proteus vulgaris and Eschericia coli while in other tested bacterial organisms, the maximum inhibition was observed with Staphylococcus aureus and then with Bacillus subtilis then Micrococcus luteus. When observed both gram positive and gram negative bacterial organisms the ethanolic extract of leaves of Terminalia arjuna was more active against gram negative species. The ethanolic extract of leaves of T. arjuna at 100 mg/ml showed paralysis of worms nearly equals to the standard drug concentration. The ethanolic extract of leaves of Terminalia arjuna showed that significant anthelmintic activity when compared to piperazine citrate (5 mg/ml).
